Welcome to Year 1 OB.


Enjoy having a look at all the fun and learning we share in Year 1!


School begins at 8.40am and ends at 1.50pm. Children enter and leave school via their classroom door.


Please remember to bring Snack and Dinner Money in on a Monday morning

in an envelope labelled with your child's name.

Snack is £2.00 per week.

Dinner is £2.60 per Day- £13.00 for full week.

Learning Through Play: People Who Help Us Topic

Year 1 Teddy Bear's Picnic

We had so much fun on our trip to the park with our teddies.

We enjoyed playing in the play park, games with the parachute, story time and a lovely walk around the park in the sunshine.

We finished off with the best part- a Teddy Bear's Picnic!

Sports Day 2019

Well done to all Year 1 for taking part in Sports Day.  You all did so well.

Finished off with lollies and medals- what could be better? A great day!

WAU: People Who Help Us

We had an exciting visit from two very special people

who help us at Millington Primary School.

They showed us how to cross a road safely and reminded us of three important rules for road safety- STOP, LOOK & LISTEN.

Science Week: Scientific Sue

We really enjoyed watching and listening to Scientific Sue!

Sue showed us some amazing science experiments!

Break the Rules Day Fun!

WAU: People Who Help Us

We had an exciting visit at school from the fire brigade. 

We got to speak with the fire fighters, sit in the fire engine and even try using the hose.


Today we went on a lovely Spring (and Easter) hunt/ walk.

We were very excited when we realised that somebody had left us delicious Easter treats in our classroom when we were out and about.

Active Numeracy: Time

This week in Numeracy, we have been exploring time.  We practised setting the clock to the hour e.g. 7 o’clock.

WAU: Cress Plant Update

We are delighted with how well our cress plants have grown.

We have been looking after them well by keeping them in the window light and watering daily.

We enjoyed playing the ‘Animal Hunt Game’ in pairs.

We enjoyed a circle time session exploring our

favourite books- we love reading!

We created a poster about our favourite book. 

The afternoon finished by reading a classic favourite together-

‘The Gingerbread Man.’

Pancake Tuesday

A team effort in Y1 today making delicious pancakes... yummy!

Literacy: Role Play and Sequencing.

We enjoyed using role play to explore the story of, ‘The Enormous Turnip.’ This helped us to sequence the story.

Numeracy: WALT: Use a Pictogram.

A fun (and healthy) way to explore a pictogram in Numeracy.

We tasted 5 different fruit and then voted for our favourite.

We presented our data on a pictogram.


Valentine’s Craft

We’ve been very busy singing, dancing and acting in Year 1.

Well done to Year 1 for taking part in the production.

The boys and girls worked so hard and are very talented bunch!

WAU: Freezing and Melting Experiment.


We came back after break time to an exciting letter with a melting challenge inside from Elsa!

We had to free the frozen penguins by melting the ice.

Firstly, we predicted which method would melt the ice quickly. We then tested it out and finally recorded our findings.

We discovered that heat was the quickest way to melt the ice.

Today we made melted snowman biscuits!

They tasted as good as they looked- yummy! 

Christmas- Glitter & Sparkle: Learning Through Play

The best way to explore our topic of ‘Christmas’ by trying out a traditional Christmas dinner! Thank you to those who made it, it was delicious!

Christmas Jumper Day:

We had great fun on Thursday wearing our wonderful Christmas jumpers! 

Our favourite part of the day was a trip to the Christmas Craft Fair, where we all purchased a lovely festive treat!

World Around Us

To end our lovely topic, we decided to take Goldilocks and the Three Bears on a walk around our own woodland garden in Millington! It was such a beautiful day and the sun was shining as we explored. We finished with circle time to share our favourite parts of the story, favourite characters and things we have learned throughout.

World Around Us:

As part of our Goldilocks topic we wanted to find out about different types of bears. We had a classroom hunt to find different types of bears from all around the world. We discovered some amazing facts!

World Around Us: Porridge


There was a delicious smell in our classroom on Friday!

We were learning all about porridge. We learned that porridge is a very healthy breakfast made with oats and milk.  We then got busy and made 3 different flavours of porridge: plain, sweet and apple.

Everyone tasted each flavour and then voted for their favourite.

Apple flavour was the most popular in Year 1- yum, yum!

The 3 bears and Goldilocks must have smelled it too and they paid us a visit!

We are starting to use the sounds that we have learned to build words!

Numeracy: Active Learning


This week we have been exploring weight in Numeracy.

We’ve been comparing heavy/light objects and ordering from lightest to heaviest.

We rotated around 5 work stations and had great fun measuring and sorting different objects by weight. We even got to use balancing scales!

World Around Us:

As part of our myself topic, we compared pictures from when we were a baby to how we look now.

We have changed so much!

Literacy: We sequenced one of our favourite songs- I Hear Thunder!

We played lots of fun games to explore our senses!

We discovered our sense of sight, hearing, taste, smell and touch.

Our body is amazing!

Autumn fun!

We’ve been learning all about this season- Autumn.

We talked about autumn weather, learned about what happens to leaves

during autumn and even had a Conker hunt!
