As part of our work in maths we have been taking part in Barvember maths problems as startups during the month of November. We are using the technique of Bar-modelling to solve process based questions (something Mr McKane found out we need to work on from our baseline assessments in September). We draw a bar and use the question we have been asked to filling as much information on it as we can. Then we fill in the rest of the bar. It is a very useful tool in math process based questions. We have found it useful in fraction problems too. We also found that in fraction based questions we need to know our mental division facts. That is where Tables Rockstars comes in....
Year 7M children have been introduced to Izak 9. The class was split up into 6 teams. They had to carry out different tasks involving Prime numbers. The task was called the odd one out. They then answered questions set by Mr McKane. We are all looking forward to completing more tasks this year on Izak 9.
We have been carrying out various baseline tests in numeracy. Everyone has been working very hard indeed. We have revised many topics taught during Lockdown. Year 7 teachers now have a good idea of the maths topics that need work and how children can further improve their skills
As part of mental maths Y7M have been taking part in Times Tables Rockstars. The more gigs (activities) we take part in the more coins we get. We can then buy items for our avitors. We all love to duel against each other. Hopefully as a result of gigging our table recall will improve. Some of us can even answer questions in under 1.5 seconds.
